Clifton Green Primary School
Clifton Green Primary is a vibrant and inclusive school for 3-11 year olds, located in the heart of York. The school is attended by over 420 children and supported by 60 teachers and staff, all serving a diverse local community.
The Brief
The website had to present a large amount of information clearly, while being equally engaging for each of the school’s distinct audiences: current pupils, their parents, and prospective families. The areas of the website intended for each group needed to be specific and appropriate, but still feel like a cohesive part of a broader brand. And the tone was key for this client, who wanted the website to be accesible to all audiences and child friendly without being childish.
The Website
We undertook a collaborative planning stage with the client, to ensure that the navigation system was as straightforward and intuitive as possible. The site structure that emerged is logical and user-friendly, presenting a wealth of information in an appealing and logical way.
The pupil zone stands out from its neighbours with a playful pop of canary yellow, which visually unifies all resources aimed at students. Once in the zone, content is clearly arranged by year groups and designed to offer the optimum user experience, with the Google Classroom link featuring prominently on every page.
We also included a bespoke feature – the eye-catching “quicklinks” bar – which follows the user up and down the screen, enabling parents to access important information quickly. And for users who don’t find it useful, it comes equipped with the option to ‘hide’ with just one click.
To publicise school events and promote engagement, there is a calendar feature that can be filtered by year group to find relevant upcoming dates for the diary. And we ensured that the client interface was approachable, giving them the confidence to make updates themselves and take ownership of the website.
The Result
Strong design, accessible navigation and tailored functionality combine to make this website a true success. The website reflects all sections of the community that Clifton Green represents, and has become a welcoming place for children to grow and learn, a useful resource for their parents, and an enticing prospect for curious newcomers.
